Remote Debugging on Android

It turns out that it’s pretty trivial to remote debug web pages (using Chrome’s web inspector) on an Android device with this Chrome extension. If you’ve ever used Safari to remote debug connected iOS devices, then you’ll be right at home with this. CR

Enable HiDPI mode in Mountain Lion w/o Quartz Debug

I’ve successfully used this little technique to emulate a retina display on my 13” Macbook Air. It’s not the most usable thing in the world as I get a scaled resolution of 720 x 450, but it was good enough to let me test some retina icons. CR

I love these little two frame animations that show the difference between high and low tide at various locations. It’s given me ideas about automatically generating simple animations of some of the images I’m collecting. CR

Faye 1.0 released

Four years after it started, Faye 1.0 has been released. I’ve been following the project for some time, using it in various experimental projects, and I’ve always been impressed by it’s reliability and ease of use. The fact it has taken 4 years to release version 1.0 is testament to the professionalism and quality inherent throughout the code. If you want a pub/sub messaging system between servers and the browser, I’d look at Faye first. TW

Self-Assembling Robots Will Blow Your Mind [Video]

These little cubes have a flywheel inside which can reach speeds of 20,000 revolutions per second. When a brake is applied to the flywheel its angular momentum is transferred to the block and this can be used to move the block about. Groups of these blocks connected by magnets can “cooperate” to generate more complex behaviour. JM
